Brewery information
Makino Shuzo has been brewing sake since 1690 in the mountains of Gunma and is the oldest sake brewery in the prefecture. With Kenjiro Makino, that centuries-old tradition is carried on, with respect for the craft and an open eye to innovation.
Oosakazuki Tokubetsu Junmai, the brewery's flagship, combines refinement with a soft, rice-driven character.
Tokubetsu means “special”. With its rice polishing to 60%, this sake is at the polishing level of a Junmai Ginjō. Yet it is classified as Tokubetsu Junmai. In addition to the polishing, the brewing method and the final flavor profile also play a role. Here, soft rice tones, round umami and restrained aromas are central, a unique character that beautifully matches the name Tokubetsu.
In the glass, aromas of steamed rice, roasted grains, and a hint of white flowers come to the fore. Soft rice sweetness, fresh acidity, and pure umami form a harmonious whole, with a round texture and a clear, refreshing finish.
The name Oosakazuki means 'large sake scale' and refers to the traditional Japanese sakazuki, with its wide, shallow shape. You can also see this on the label. Drinkingware plays an important role within the sake culture: the shape influences how you experience aromas, flavors, and textures, while the sakazuki is also connected to ceremonies, festive occasions, and sharing together.
This connection can be found in the sake itself: flavors come together and complement a variety of dishes. For us, this is a particularly versatile sake, which you can serve throughout a full meal, both chilled and lightly warmed.
From a relaxed meal to a festive dinner: Oosakazuki brings together flavors, people and moments.
